Taiwan Matsuzawa Seismic Equipment Co., Ltd., the sole Taiwanese member of the Japan Society of Seismic Isolation (JSSI), was honored to participate in JSSI's "Recent Seismic Isolation Cases" tour and lecture on March 21, 2024.
The lecture mainly introduced several recent seismic isolation buildings in Japan, including the Steel Building in Marunouchi, Tokyo, Tsuruga City Hall and Meho Fire Station in Fukui Prefecture, Takenaka Corporation's Fukae Taketomo Dormitory in Hyogo Prefecture, Itami City Hall in Hyogo Prefecture, the T&T III Building in Tokyo, Hoshino Resort's OMO7 Osaka in Osaka City, the Kudankai-kan Terrace and Preservation Building in Tokyo, and Obayashi Corporation's high-rise wooden seismic isolation building "Port Plus" in Yokohama.
JSSI hopes to use this tour to raise the visibility of seismic isolation buildings and promote seismic isolation technology to the construction industry.
Among them, Tsuruga City Hall and Meho Fire Station in Fukui Prefecture adopted a seismic isolation + seismic (damping) integrated structure, emphasizing the complementary effects of seismic isolation and seismic (damping).
Notably, Obayashi Corporation's "Port Plus" in Yokohama, a high-rise wooden seismic isolation building, uses spherical sliding bearings along with seismic beams and damping walls, breaking the stereotype that wooden buildings are not earthquake-resistant.
The tour included visits to Toda Construction's Toda Building (under construction in Tokyo Kyobashi) and Nihon University's School of Science and Technology Skorata in Tokyo Kanda.
JSSI used the under-construction Toda Building and the newly completed Skorata to illustrate that seismic isolation technology is gaining visibility in the market and gradually being accepted and adopted by the industry.
